No attribution means no consideration. Looks like someone's starting to feel enough pressure from Juniper that they're resorting to anonymous hit jobs.

I will say two bad things about Juniper:

  1. Their JTAC (tech support) is terrible. The worst I have ever encountered. I thought F5 was bad until I met Juniper.
  2. I have found several bugs on various software platforms. Fortunately, they are not related to the devices you bought.

Hi,

We run a core with around 30 MX boxes and here is my point of view :

  • the cli is great. Just the best I have ever used.
  • mpls services are very well integrated.
  • bgp, policies, and so on are very easy to use and you can't mess up.

  • there is ton of bugs in JunOS... The releases > 10.0 (except the newest 10.3) are just unusable.

  • the JTAC is horrible as Nola said... And i'm nice when i say horrible :-).

But, in the end, there is no perfect vendor and it really depends on your needs :

  • broadband access => redback or alcatel for ipoe, redback or cisco for pppoe
  • mpls => juniper or alcatel,
  • ip => cisco or juniper

And at the end of the day... It's not the technical engineers who decide :-)

I personally like the juniper equipment we are using. Although yes, JTAC is horrendous. You're better of scrubbing the Internet for answers. Or pray you get an SE worth his weight.

I'm not a believer in bad support. Bad support engineers, yes. But that can be dealt with by kicking up a fuss.
