Hi!! i have a doubt about the loop back adapter. in routers we are using the serial interface and the Ethernet interfaces.just we are using to communicate the other networks. but we are not connected to logical interface like the loop back adapter. why we should we choose the loop back adapter? when we configured? can any one help me and show me ax example Thank you... |

Loopback interfaces are often used to provide IP addresses for management functionality. For example, we can assign an address to a loopback interface that we can then use to telnet into the device for mangement purposes. Also, loopback interfaces are often used by routing protocols as the source of their messages. The reason for using loopback interfaces instead of physical interfaces is that they don't typically fail like a physical interface might. For example, if you use the IP address of your FastEthernet interface for router management, and someone unplugs the cable from that interface, it will go down. You can no longer connect to the router using that address. However, if you are using an address on a loopback interface, even if another interface goes down you can still access the router as long as there is an alternate route to the loopback network. Hope that makes sense, Josh |
