GSN3 How to - Packet Life

Hey guys, I've been working on packet tracer and was introduced to the gsn3 program. I downloaded everything from the site and I have an authentic ios for the 2610 and 7200. When I start it, add ios, configure platform, choose putty with gsn3, start router and click idle pc, putty starts and just sits there. The ios does not start running. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

What OS you are using, what IOS image, I will put a post on how to use secureCRT with GNS3, it is really nice...

Hey guys, I'm still looking for a fix for this. I'm running xp.

Did you check how to use secureCRT with GNS3? anyway, you can change the IOS you are using, or try multiple IOSs, some of them are just unable to run, update GNS3, .7.2 released a couple of days ago.

Try to extract the IOS image to reduce the load the IOS generates when it first starts.

Ok, gns3 still will not work. I've extract 2651 and 7200 IOS, loaded as defaults, added idle pc, but console screen just sits there. I've read all the docuementation, tried putty, SecureCRT, uninstall reinstall and updated to 7.2 version. Any ideas? See attachment..

One more question, what does 6w0d route in show command output mean?

Sounds like 6 weeks 0 days to me, but it would help to know which show command to add some context

This might be too obvious but once you've started the routers and opened Putty, you're hitting enter a few times to get some output in the window? I use dynagen but when I telnet to a router session there isn't any output until I type something in or hit enter to get a new line.

what is very important for me is how to make multiple instances of the hypervisor run on the same machine, I think that would make 10 routers work better than with just one instance.

Did anybody try that?, I did with two hypervisor on two different physical machines and it worked great.

Update: I found a pdf file that explains howto but I don't know when it starts using another hypervisor.

Thanks for the replies guys. I tried everything in the pdf and other notes from this site. I tried using putty and CRT but I just get the black box sitting there. Now I went back to trying telnet and get:

error: compressed image checksum is incorrect oxc565bd39 expected a checksum of 0x8a19ff87

you can try a fresh PC and ISO image other than you are using right now.

i am also facing same problem os image doesn't runs.only a black screen comes after i load the image please suggest .........

Do you mean a black screen comes up when you try to telnet to the console screen?

If you are using the menu option, try to manually telnet into your console. Hover over the router while it is running and it will display the ip (localhost if not configured) and console port ( they usually start at 2000).

If you are getting what fantom711 posted in the word doc, try hitting enter and waiting a few seconds.

I guess its better to run directly hitting router console if its working fine there then no problem seems in setting or ios

Have you tried new image(s) with same error?

It seems that the IOS files are corrupted.Try using the default telnet client and see what happens.

Also Try downloading other new image files and give it a try. Here is the link:

3600 Works best for me. Doesnt eat memory. Let me know how it goes.

ashishwalia09 - IOS images are licensed software and are subject to software EULA and laws like any other software. This is the one downfall with GNS3 and dynamips is you must use a licensed version of IOS.
