Dear all, I have a question. I would like to know if there is any quick way to encry the password into Cisco ISO type 7. As I have the mac control over all my AP and I have more than 10 APs and there are more than 50sth wireless Mac address should be added into those AP (Cisco 1240 Aironet) MAC associated list in order to connect to the wireless network. The reason I am asking the encry as I would like to prepare all the password in a list and then put them into the config.txt afterward I just need to upload the config file and everything should be fine and it saves much time on repeating doing the boring stuffs into 10 AP with 50 sth wireless mac addresses. Could anyone can send me a link or a small program that can let me convert the password into ios type 7. Thanks. pls help~~ Sam Lai |

The easiest thing to do would be to enable the password encryption service on all your devices. Just add: service password-encryption to the beginning of all of your configs. When you paste your plaintext passwords into your devices, they will be automatically encrypted as type 7 passwords. Josh |

In addition to joshlowe, All existing passwords should be encrypted with type 7, including any new passwords. :service password-encryption: |

Be carefull with the "service password encryption" command. In some older IOS versions, there are bugs that will leave credentials (ie TACACS key) in plain text of your config. The think the 12.2x and older versions/trains are affected. |
