While I've been happy to run the site out-of-pocket for nearly two years now, its growth in popularity introduces a need for the site to support itself financially. I've begun experimenting with advertisements on the site. As a casual policy:

  • No braindump ads (I've tried my best to filter)
  • A max of one ad per page
  • No ads on community-contributed pages (forum, wiki)
  • No ads on the lab (except for sponsors)

I'd also like to restrict Flash-based ads, if I could figure out how...

At any rate, the ads are in place at the time of this posting. Please let me know any issues encounter or thoughts you'd like to share. Thanks.

I think it's normal stretch,

don't worry about using advertisements, your works on packetlife are remarkable, so, if the content stay the same, a little ads banner on a page doesn't bother us!

Looks fine to me. It's all a part of doing business. As long as you don't have popups and "10,000,000th visitor ads", I think it won't be a problem.

Stretch, the content that you place on this, certainly must take up a lot of your time. I for one would be willing to pay a subscription fee to keep this site going rather than loose it. I dont think I would get much argument against this.

Just noticed this post and added packetlife.net to my list of websites I don't block ads on. I really have enjoyed using the lab and the content on the site, a few ads won't bother anything.

I also remove ad-blocking for this site (and any sites like it).
I feel very fortunate to have found a site like this. I should have started using it earlier.

Advertisements on forum/wiki are okay. Every little bit helps.

Thanks!

the greatest help given to us is the free lab provided on this site and what else we could ask for.
thanks for all the time and work done by the administrator of this site.
