I was wondering how can we setup a dedicated packet capture device so that it can capture every packet in and out of the network and at the same time should be fast in displaying/sorting filters through large volumes of captures.
I know of devices that does it like riverbed's cascade shark appliance but i was wondering can we do it for free by setting up a dedicated server.

Has anybody done that....
