I have a 2650XM with 256MB DRAM and 32MB Flash. I know that the voice package with CME and its supported IOS requires 48MB flash. However I can not find 48MB flash memory cards for sale. Does anyone know how to make this upgrade. Is there a way to make the router combine the on board 16MB flash with the 32MB flash SIMM? Below I have pasted some of the output from a show version. ROM: System Bootstrap, Version 12.2(8r) [cmong 8r], RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1) Cisco 2650XM (MPC860P) processor (revision 4.0) with 253952K/8192K bytes of memory. Processor board ID FTX0916A09V M860 processor: part number 5, mask 2 1 FastEthernet interface 1 Serial interface 2 Serial(sync/async) interfaces 32K bytes of NVRAM. 32768K bytes of processor board System flash (Read/Write) Configuration register is 0x2102 |

You have a 16 meg flash in the socket from the looks of things. The XM routers have 16 megs flash built in on the motherboard. So when you add a 32 meg flash to the simm socket the total is 48. There is no 48 meg flash simm for the XM router. You have the right bootrom so it just looks like you need a 32 meg flash. If you are certain it is a 32 meg flash (which I doubt) just tftp the IOS back onto it and when it asks to erase the flash say yes. That would fix it but I think you have a 16 in socket. When you put a 32 meg flash in the router it will automatically see the total of 48. If your IOS is larger than 16 it is spanning the 16 onboard and the 16 in the socket and you will need to tftp an IOS onto the new flash when you put a 32 flash into it. it'll look like this Cisco 2651XM (MPC860P) processor (revision 1.0) with 253952K/8192K bytes of memory. Processor board ID JAE072600FD M860 processor: part number 5, mask 2 4 Ethernet interfaces 2 FastEthernet interfaces 2 Serial interfaces 1 Virtual Private Network (VPN) Module 32K bytes of NVRAM. 49152K bytes of processor board System flash (Read/Write) Configuration register is 0x2142 |

@sacox31s A little trick I've found for most of my home routers is that with cisco memory and flash is that its all generic memory like you could buy for a computer (not the flash but same idea). You can usually find the exact same memory/flash for incredibly cheaper when the word cisco isn't attached to it. However always be aware of scams and "fake memory." As a rule I tend to never buy anything from out side the US from sites like ebay. Try searching google for liquidators and other sites.
DRAM Type Flash Type
2600XM routers: 3.3V 100-Pin DRAM DIMM 3.3 V 80-Pin SIMM
Non-XM 2600 routers: 5V 100-pin DIMM 5V 80-Pin SIMM

Yeah, so it turned out that I did have a 16MB SIMM flash card in the router. I thought I was 100% positive that I had put a 32MB SIMM in there. Oh well, I have ordered a new 32MB SIMM. I thought the flash was partitioned and that was why only 32 total was showing up. Anyway thanks for the responses. bkpaine was exactly correct. |

More information. http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/routers/ps259/prod_qas0900aecd800f71dd.html Question # 10 Since the on board flash (16MB) is included when you partition the SIMM slot, it equals out to 16 + 32 = 48. Often times it becomes a numbers game, like when you buy a 128MB Ram Kit... and recieve 2 X 64MB sticks. The "48MB Flash" that is referred to is the total you be brought to upon installation of "this" stick. Hence the line in the sellers auction. "This will allow the total flash memory increase to 48MB" If you look at a different auction by the same seller. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160375352030&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT You'll notice on this auction its says "One 32MB 80-pin Flash Simm" Gotta love misdirection. -Ian |

Sevan, yeah I ended up buying from the same vendor on eBay. That box has been running CME now for a little over a month. I also now have a SIP trunk for making outside calls. |

One of my Cisco 7940s came with SIP installed, but I converted to SCCP. You never know what you'll get from eBay. |
